Q: What is Drytech?
A: Drytech is a SnoRider exclusive.
SnoRider created the waterproof seat in
snowmobile bibs back in the 80's. The Drytech
process is a polyurethane coated nylon that
is attached to the midliner of the bibs.
This nylon is formed in the shape of a pair
of boxer shorts. The seams are all heat
welded instead of stitched.
Q: What does Katahdin mean?
A: An Abenaki (Native American) word
meaning "MAIN" or "GREATEST
MOUNTAIN".
In the deep woods of Northern Maine there
exists a wilderness refuge known as Baxter
State Park. The focus of these 202,064 acres
is Mount Katahdin, standing firm at 13 feet
shy of 1 mile high -- making it the highest
point in the state. And just as our namesake
has come to represent the domination of
the greatest mountain in the rugged North
Maine woods, we have committed ourselves
to providing products that will prove to
stand up to extreme off-road conditions.
We are confident that Katahdin Gear will
live up to its name.
Q: What's the difference between the
Sno Rider and Katahdin Gear product?
A: Both products are manufactured
in the same factories and designed by the
same people. The SnoRider bibs are the only
bibs in the market with the
Drytech
process
Q: What Kind of leather
is in your Forza gloves?
A: The Forza leather gloves are made
from cowhide.
Q: What's the zipper stopper
on the outside leg of the Katahdin Racer
Pant, Xtreme2 pant and
Triple X pant?
A: Venting is what keeps garments
versatile for all weather conditions. The
full length 2 way zipper on our pants is
an excellent source of venting, so we provided
the zipper stopper so you can use your leg
zipper as a vent.
Q: What types of nylon
do you use for your Jackets and bib?
A: Product Features
page
Q: Do you recommend waterproof
gloves?
A: Yes, even though it would take
a terrential down pour to affect your hands
while riding, we know you are using our
gloves for many other things. A winter glove
should be waterproof for mechanics, ice
fishing, snowball fights, brushing off your
car, etc.
Q: Do you recommend a long
cut or short cut jacket?
A: This is really personal preference.
The main benefit of a long cut jacket is
protection from the elements a drawback
is some people don't like sitting on the
tail of the jacket. Something else to consider
is style/fashion - the long cuts are becoming
more popular every year. Even some racers
are wearing long cut jackets.
Q: Do you recommend a 100%
(FWP) waterproof jacket?
A: Not necessarily. Unless you're
in a terrential down pour, you will never
need it, but the winter sports market has
offered this option for many years, and
people seem to be willing to pay $30.00-40.00
more for waterproof jackets over an identical
nonwaterproof version. If you want to demand
Goretex, you can figure a $100.00-200.00
increase, even though there is similar products
on the market that work just as well.
Q: Do you recommend a waterproof
seat in bibs, if so why?
A: Absolutely!!! We do not offer
any bibs or pants without a waterproof seat,
your butt can get wet while riding a snowmobile
on a dry day. Just a little snow dust from
your sled can ruin your day with a wet butt.
Q: What is the purpose
of vents (IVS) in a jacket?
A: Venting is what keeps garments
versatile. With vents you can cool yourself
down temporarily if you are riding aggressively
for part of a cold day. Or you can wear
your fully insulated snowmobile jacket on
warm days with your vents wide open. Vents
not only allow outside air in, but they
also allow moist hot air produced from your
body to escape. If you are perspiring, open
your vents to allow the moist air to escape.
Staying dry will help keep you warm.
